The Other Half Of Success

As a business owner you need to continuously ask yourself, “what can I do to make myself more valuable?

It’s true that success is about being a go-getter, getting out of your comfort zone and setting yourself apart from the competition. We must set goals and make bold promises, and then we must develop habits that allow us to consistently back up our promises with action.

But wealthy business owners know that there’s another side to the equation. They know that true success is also about being a likable person that clients (in the case of my painting business, homeowners) are comfortable being around. It’s about offering an outstanding service and going the extra mile to make sure your customers are not just satisfied, but blown away with you and your work.

I’ve been in business for almost four decades and have noticed that no matter what’s going on with the economy there are always business owners struggling to stay afloat.  Even in the best of times, there are people who will make excuses for why they have little business. Blaming the economy or the competition, saying things will get better when people start spending money again – be careful not to fall into that trap!

I want you to really understand that you always have some control, and in many cases, total control over your level of success. I’ve found that companies who put their customers first never run out of business or opportunities - even during the tough times. If you need some examples to get you thinking about how to move forward during this particularly difficult time, I’ve put together some ideas for you in this article.

Always remember: Your boss (or your customers) may sign your paycheque, but you fill in the amount. Wealthy business owners are people who refuse to wait for better times to come their way. Instead they find ways to make them happen.
